Mackey Leeds 1900 David Mackey I am trying to find out information on my Grandfather James Mackey and his
parents also James Mackey; mother's name not known. He was born in Leeds
but I have not been able to find him on any St Catherine's House indexes or census records. I have found him on school records dated 1908 at St Ann's School and I have his marriage certificate from 1917, so I know his father was also James, a mill worker. Has anyone else had problems in locating past relatives where there just isn't any offical records?

I am looking for any information about John Matterson (born at Selby about 1834) and his wife Elizabeth (born at Selby about 1836). In the 1871 census they lived at 1 Gas Street,(I think it reads) in the Hunslet area of Leeds. Also living with them was their son John Thomas, born about 1865 and their daughter Mary born about 1860. John Thomas and Mary were born at Leeds. In the 1881 census they were living at Hartlepool, Co. Durham.

Tom McDowell Interested in finding out more about my great-uncle John McDowell who lived in Beeston for the above period. He was a commercial teacher at McDowell & Walker's school of Shorthand which was situated at 3, Cookridge Street in 1898. He also taught at the Northern Institute, Park Row. Any information on any of the above most welcome.

Barbara Mason I was born a McGill and with the internet have found a line going back to 1795. It is just names at the moment. I would like to pad it out a bit and also find a John Maggill(McGill) who was the father of John Thompson McGill who was born in 1795. I think that the John the father may have married an Elizabeth Thompson in Halifax in 1792 but this is speculation (based on the McGills giving the mother's surname to one of the sons as a christian name - very useful). Any information would be useful.

Joshua was a Gas Stoker and apparently sang in music halls in the 1920's. Other children were George William, Samuel, John, Thomas, Charles, ? Gerard and Maria. Joshua and Margaret were married in 1897. Sarah came to Australia in around 1929 married had one child Edmund. Was deported back to England in 1933 as she had tuberculosis. Returned to Australia in 1939 and remained until her death in 1957.
