The Local and Family History Library
The Local and Family History library aims to acquire, conserve and make available to the public all materials published about Leeds and a selection of materials about Yorkshire.

The library holds an extensive range of items related to the history of Leeds and Yorkshire. Resources held by the library include photographs, maps, newspapers, prints and books. The library also provides users with access to a wide range of family history resources including books, pamphlets, trade directories, electoral rolls and registers, parish registers, census returns, the GRO Index of Births, Deaths and Marriages and the International Genealogical Index.

About 6,000 of the most frequently used items are available on open access, for readers to browse through and select for themselves, but most of the stock is stored `behind the scenes' and is obtainable on request.

Staff are always pleased to help users use the microfilm readers, catalogues and indexes.

The library also run a series of regular IT sessions that enable participants to search the Internet for genealogical information and to learn how to use the Leodis Database.
